HISTORY
 
SUPPORT is established in the year 1993 by Mr. Nimton a visually impaired visionary and Mr. Abshalam, teacher who have come against odds in life for being disabled and backward communities. Mr. Nimton is visually impaired by birth. Despite the ignorance & poverty of his parents, he did his MA (English) and became the principal of the school for blind in Karimnagar Andhra Pradesh.  They came together along with other socially committed persons with the able guidance of Sri. Z.V. Prasad, Ex-Deputy Director of Disabled Welfare, Govt. of AP and Sri. Y. Krupanandam, Asst. Director, National Institute for Visually Handicapped (NIVH), Dehradun.
 

SUPPORT is registered with District Registrar of Societies under Societies Registration Act XXI of 1860 with number 109/93 on 18-03-1993. It is also registered under Ministry of Home Affairs under FCRA Act with number 010120100. The organisation enjoys tax exemption under section 80G of Income Tax Act empowering it to receive donations with tax exemption to the donors. Organisation is member of Credibility Alliance – a network of NGOs in India who promote transparency and accountability in voluntary by following a set of defined norms and GIVE Foundation which has a detailed criteria for admitting the organisation into its fold.

Objectives

 

Ø     Empowerment of disabled and women and the socially disadvantaged groups and strengthening efforts to build self-reliance and to bring them to the mainstream of society

 

Ø  To take developmental efforts for children in rural areas and distress conditions 

 

Ø    To promote appropriate access channels for disabled, women to promote their participation in education, healthcare and economic activities

 

Ø    To promote equal opportunities for the marginalised sections mainly disabled and women and enabling them to come to mainstream of the society

 

Ø    Ensuring environmental sustainability of the development process through social mobilization and participation of community at all levels

 

Ø   To ensure human rights for the vulnerable people especially people with HIV/AIDS

 

Ø    To promote education of the marginalized sections of  society on various issues
